INSULAE arrives in Banyoles
'Poetic Island Cartographies' is already visitable at La Parra
The INSULAE project continues its tour of cities in Girona province. After the University of Girona, 'Poetic Island Cartographies' arrives in Banyoles. The exhibition will be on display at La Parra from the first weekend of March until the first weekend of May.
The exhibition, inspired by visual residue in the form of stains, features seven representative pieces from 2021 to the end of 2025, including 'Splash,' the first cartography related to swimming, and 'Gironation: Expats,' which focuses on the rise of cycling in the Girona region and uses English as the common language.
The other five pieces are 'Banyoles Around the World,' a tribute to the capital of the Pla de l'Estany; 'Porn,' which explores sexual relationships; 'Gulped of renegades and insults' emphasizes the richness of the Catalan language in this area; 'Lichtenstein Explosions' reviews prominent artists from the history of art, both globally and locally; and finally, 'Music' offers a journey through musical tastes.
The restaurant's setting is ideal because its owner, Joan Soler, has a passion for art. Works by artists such as Lluís Vilà and Paco Daranas, among many others, have graced its walls, and personalities like Albert Serra and Albert Om have eaten there during the fifth season of TV3's 'El Convidat' (The Guest). The 18th-century Parra building was originally an inn, while the restaurant itself has been serving good food for over a hundred years in the Plaça de les Rodes in Banyoles.
The prints were produced at 'La Impresión Fine Art', a studio specialized in this field, and the frames were purchased from La Rebotiga, which recycled them. Both establishments are located in the town of Banyoles. With these actions, INSULAE kills two birds with one shot, boosting local businesses and the circular economy.
